In Tuscany, "ORCIO" is the name used to indicate typical large terracotta vases; It was used in the past to preserve food products, oils and other liquids and it is still very much used in the countryside and cities of this region.
The features that characterize this type of vase are a synthesis that through the centuries was able to blend esthetics and functionality.
I decided to call ORCINO this store because I feel this object summarize well the unique aspects of my homeland whose ceramic tradition constitute the foundation for all my creations.
An exceptionally unique type of clay is extracted from the hills surrounding Florence. The terra-cotta that is born of this clay is a clear thread that ties together different aspects of a land rich with art and traditions: from the shingles of the Duomo, the uniquely decorated apothecaries of the Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy to the every- day tools tied to the countryside and its fruits.
As for all artisans of the past, the shapes and decors of my creations are inspired by century-old traditions, adapted and personalized but never distorted.
All objects available within this e-commerce store are handcrafted in France respecting the traditions and using raw material of Tuscany.
